On September 9, President Biden issued new vaccine mandates affecting private businesses and federal employees.
All employers with 100+ employees must require vaccination or weekly negative testing. OSHA issued an Emergency Temporary Standard to introduce the requirement. Companies that fail to comply could face fines of $14,000 per violation.
Additionally, vaccine requirements were announced for health care providers that accept Medicare and Medicaid, for all federal employees and contractors and Head Start program staff, among others.
Employees of the executive branch and contractors who do business with the federal government were also given a vaccine mandate with no option to test out.
The combined requirements will cover two-thirds of all workers nationwide, Biden said, noting that 92% of the country’s active-duty service members have been inoculated. He mandated the shots for the military on August 9.
The Republican National Committee has filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration.
